Approved – Small Public Service Vehicle (Emergency Measure COVID-19) Regulations 2021

Following public consultation, the NTA Board approved the signing of the Small Public Service Vehicle (Emergency Measure COVID-19) Regulations 2021 today. In the context of COVID-19 and the associated extraordinary economic circumstances being experienced by the industry, these emergency regulations facilitate the licensing of eligible taxis and hackneys for additional operation in excess of the usual Maximum Permissible Age Requirements.

These emergency regulations permit a one year extension to the final operation date of vehicles due to reach their final date of operation/maximum permissible age in 2021. These regulations combine the two previous COVID-19 emergency maximum age regulations and provide further protection in relation to vehicles due to reach their amended maximum permissible age during 2021. 

For those licences due to renew in 2022, normal maximum possible age limits of 10 or 15 years (Regulation 31 of the Taxi Regulation (Small Public Service Vehicle) Regulations 2015) will apply as this regulation only operates in 2021 on a COVID-19 emergency basis.
