The National Transport Authority (NTA) is inviting the public to give feedback on proposed service enhancements for the Urlingford – Thurles bus corridor. This consultation aims to improve connectivity and increase bus service frequency in the region. The consultation will remain open until 5pm on Friday, 15th of November.
Service Enhancements connectring with Johnstown, Crosspatrick, Templetuohy, Moyne and Thurles Train Station
The NTA is proposing to enhance services on the Urlingford – Thurles corridor to provide more frequent, reliable transport options. These changes are intended to enhance public transport access for rural communities in the area.
The proposed enhancement includes plans for a new seven-day week service, with four services a day. The service will operate between Urlingford and Thurles, providing connections with Johnstown, Crosspatrick, Templetuohy, Moyne and Thurles Train Station.
Under the plans, the proposed service will offer improved access to other local connections including Routes 393, 812, 828, 850 and 858 as well as rail services available from Thurles Train Station.
Integrated Ticketing and Accessibility
Passengers along the Urlingford – Thurles route will benefit from seamless integration with the TFI Go app for convenient journey planning. The Leap Card fare system and Free Travel Passes will also be valid on applicable services on the corridor.
The NTA is also working to introduce accessible vehicles while working with local authorities to improve bus stop infrastructure to ensure the service meets the needs of all passengers.

Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan
These proposed enhancements are part of the Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan, a national initiative aimed at strengthening rural public transport as part of the Transport for Ireland Network (TFI). The plan, which is developed and funded by the National Transport Authority, is aligned with the goals of Project Ireland 2040 and the Climate Action Plan.
