TFI Local Link Kildare South Dublin is enhancing bus services from Naas to Carlow, from Monday the 29th of January.
Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan
This enhancement is part of the Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan which is a major national public transport initiative developed and funded by the National Transport Authority (NTA) as part of the Transport for Ireland (TFI) Network.
Enhanced connectivity to Castledermot, Moone, Timolin, Balitore, Carrig Glen, Ballyshannon, Kilcullen, Two Mile House and Killashee
Route 880 will now operate seven daily return services Monday to Saturday and five daily return services on Sunday with a late evening return service on Friday and Saturday. The route will offer enhanced connectivity to villages and areas such as Castledermot, Moone, Timolin, Balitore, Carrig Glen, Ballyshannon, Kilcullen, Two Mile House and Killashee.
The route will also provide an enhanced commuter service to and from Carlow and will offer improved connectivity to Naas Hospital and regional bus and rail services.
Positive enhancements to Route 880
Speaking ahead of the launch, TFI Local Link Kildare South Dublin General Manager Alan Kerry, said: “We are confident the enhanced route 880 will offer a real and tangible alternative to private car dependency for those people resident along the route.
“In partnership with the NTA, we have planned the timetable to offer connectivity to local train services, along with peak time arrivals into both Carlow and Naas to accommodate employment and education needs along with evening and weekend schedules to provide people with sustainable access to their social activities. Along with recent reductions in public transport fares and the expansion of the Young Adult Card for those up to the age of 25, we are hopeful that the route will provide an additional catalyst to allow people to adopt public transport usage as part of their daily lives in rural Kildare.
“The success of local bus services is dependent on usage and I’d encouraged local communities to spread the news about the positive enhancements added to our route 880 service.”
