Henry J Lyons Architects is an Irish architectural practice with HQ in Dublin City Centre on Pearse Street. With over 150 staff including architects, designers and support staff, it’s one of the biggest architectural practices in Ireland.
Facilities
In 2009 Henry J Lyons offices were redeveloped and the site was split into three separate units with shared underground car parking. The vast majority of parking was earmarked for other tenants and HJL only retained 5 spaces, less than 5% of total available space. The refurbishment provided space for ample bicycle parking, with showers , changing facilities & lockers all at basement level. These facilities are kept well maintained, clean and stocked with basic toiletries. The changing room and shower areas are used daily by staff who have an active commute to work as well as those who exercise at lunch time

The most recent survey in November 2017 found that cycling is the most popular form of transport to the Henry J Lyons’ offices, followed by train/Dart/Luas; walking, bus and finally car.
How is this achieved?
Cycling
There is convenient secure parking for 25 bicycles just off the main entrance with the remainder accessed through a carpark to the rear. HJL participate in the bike to work scheme which many of the staff avail of. As a large number of projects are located in the city, many employees use their bikes to travel to meetings on site or in nearby offices.
HJL recently held an in-house bicycle maintenance workshop taught by a staff member . The aim was to teach bicycle repairs and how to prepare bikes for the winter months. There are also plans to run bike training for staff in the coming months, run by Cycle Ireland.

Walking
The city centre location makes HJL accessible by foot from several nearby neighbourhoods. Staff enjoy a fresh walk to work arriving alert and ready for action. (Weather permitting of course)
Train/Luas/Dart/Bus
The office is 100 metres from Pearse Street Station which is a major Dublin rail hub for Commuter and Dart Services. Employees have only to cross the road to catch their train. Several Dublin bus and Bus Eireann stops are conveniently located within a couple minutes walk from the front door. Henry J Lyons provides Taxsaver tickets for staff which can save up to 40% on ticket costs.
Carpool
In general driving to work at HJL is a rare occurrence. The number of available spaces is very limited and only reserved on a first come first serve basis. People often carpool with family members or co-workers.
